The Belendina red onion from Andora is a sweet delicacy with delicate spicy notes, a gastronomic specialty which is also testimony to the local peasant traditions of the Ligurian Riviera del Ponente: a variety that has been handed down within some peasant families of Andora which still today they keep the tradition alive with a very small quality production. For its historical-social value, the red onion Belendina di Andora has been recognized as a Slow Food presidium, after having already become part of the Ark of Taste.
The belendina is a red onion, very sweet, flask-shaped and very large in size: it can weigh more than a kilo. The climate and alluvial soil of the Piana d'Andora have created the ideal conditions for its cultivation. According to a popular legend, it arrived from the sea at the beginning of the nineteenth century by a young sailor.
Thanks to the direct relationship we have with local producers we are able to deliver a truly exclusive rarity.
