This Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2021 by Terre Bianche fully reflects all the typical qualities of one of the most characteristic wines of Ligurian oenology. It is a white wine with a dry flavor, it has an intense aroma of yellow peach, acacia honey and aromatic herbs. Pigato is perfect to accompany all the dishes of the local Ligurian tradition, from appetizers to pasta with pesto and focaccia. It is also excellent as a wine to pair with fish.
Pigato is a local variant of Vermentino that has adapted to the environment of the Ligurian Riviera coast. The name comes from "pigau", a Genoese dialect term that indicates the small spots of color that form on the grape.
The company was founded in 1870 when Tommaso Rondelli decided to plant the first vineyards of rossese di Dolceacqua, a DOC grape variety exclusive to the Val Nervia area, in a region with white, clayey soil, called Terre Bianche. The brothers Claudio and Paolo Rondelli, and Franco Laconi were the protagonists of the company expansion in the years 1980 - 1998 which allowed not only a further and consistent increase in production, both quantitatively and qualitatively, but also the ideal completion of the agricultural activity with agritourism.
Since the late nineties Filippo has replaced his father Claudio, joining Paolo and Franco in running the company. Since then the quality of the wines has further increased, and they have achieved the most important awards.
